I had wanted to be more ‘crafty’ for a while and wasn’t sure where to start. The government would blame it on the recession and I maybe more on Kirstie Allsopp, but since home made became hipster every Tom, Dick and Harry is knitting, gluing and Instagramming all over the shop, and as much as I hate to say it, this spike in popularity massively put me off. And then I thought, “sod it; life’s too short to be avoiding the mainstream”, and if I genuinely enjoy it, I’ll be doing long after the Shoreditch Set have begun welding as part of their repertoire. So I joined the newly started Crafty Council at work. It wasn’t just for the wine, or the chance to meet people at a new job I promise, I genuinely did want to learn how to knit and crochet that’s really where it all began; knitting a square for a charity blanket turned into knitting a scarf for a a favourite little person, which turned into knitting Christmas decorations for a charity fair at work, then a monkey for my nephew and after that it was out of control!
