As you may have guessed from the title, this post is all about Derby International Women’s Day!
For anyone who doesn’t know, International Women’s Day was on March 8th and it’s all about celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
It’s also about moving towards gender parity and inclusivity, which I love!
To celebrate the day I organised a small event at work, with the help of of three other lovely colleagues, and on Saturday we went into Derby town centre for the International Women’s Day event which was really amazing.
There were quite a few stalls selling bits and also advertising different services and organisations around Derbyshire, plus various performances throughout the day, some of which can be seen on YouTube. Derby International Women’s Day also produced a magazine for the event which can be viewed below:
My favourite thing though was the exhibition about suffragism in Derbyshire. I had no idea that the women of Derbyshire played such an important role in the suffragette movement and it’s definitely something that I will be learning more about, starting with the fab site Deeds Not Words Towards Liberation and also the Derby Her Story website!
I hope you had a fab IWD and I’d love to hear how you celebrated and what IWD means to you!
